Florida House Introduces Social Media Privacy Bill

The Florida House of Representatives has proposed a bill that will prohibit employers from requesting or requiring access to social media account of employee or prospective employee and prohibit employers from taking retaliatory personnel action against employee as result of employee’s refusal to allow access to his or her social media account. The bill also prohibits employers from failing or refusing to hire prospective employee as result of prospective employee’s refusal to allow access to his or her social media account and authorizes civil action for violation plus provides for recovery of attorney fees & court costs.
