War hero Jacob Matthew Cadriel recently was awarded more than 1 million dollars after he was shot and killed by co-worker Steven Damien Young in 2015. The jury found Woven Metal Products, Inc. negligent in knowingly providing an unsafe workplace for its employees. The company’s failure to conduct a background and criminal records checks allowed Young’s violent history and weapon possession arrests to pass under the radar. According to Ronald Brown, author of “Dying on the Job,” Cadriel was one of 800 employees who are killed in brutal homicides in the American workplace.
