In just one year, $482 million was paid by employers for violating the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This may not mean anything to your business, but the cost of non-compliance is great for those who lack knowledge about state laws, unemployment defense, workers’ compensation and Human Rights laws. State laws can be termed mandatory, voluntary, required, immunity, marijuana or open. Knowing where your state falls in terms of drug testing could save your company thousands. The ADA prohibits discrimination against “a qualified individual on the basis of disability in regards to job application procedures; the hiring, advancement or discharge of employees; employee compensation; job training; and other terms, conditions, and privileges of employment.” The law applies to those employers with 15 or more employees for each working day.
