A recent report revealed that alcohol use in those ages 12 to 25 have been on the decline, while the use of drugs like marijuana and heroin, along with mental illness in those older than 26, have generally remained steady, with a treatment gap for mental and substance use disorders. A second study by the National Survey on Drug Use and Health focused on prescription psychotherapeutic medications and shows misuse among 6.4 million people older than 12.
