Weed in the Workplace: What You Need to Know

Although the presidential candidates have not discussed the use of marijuana, those at state and local levels have passed several ordinances. But, because the issue remains illegal at a federal level, the impact on workplaces has been minimal and based solely on each state’s laws. Currently, 25 states and the District of Columbia have authorized medical and recreational use of the drug, but, except for three states with employment protection, employees under the influence or in possession of marijuana can still be fired. The CARERS Act is seeking to close the gap between federal and state laws.
