With “Ban the Box” laws continuing to expand, many states are beginning to consider whether they should be asking questions about arrest and conviction record as part of the normal application process. Ban the Box was implemented to allow those with criminal backgrounds a second chance at making positive changes. Employees even are becoming more lenient about marijuana use or arrest for such use. Whether an employer chooses to ignore conviction record information is a personal decision, but it is important for states to consider the currently changing laws.
