The Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board will require mandatory background checks beginning fall 2025 for
initial applicants, reinstatements, and temporary licenses in marriage and family therapy. The Kansas Bureau of
Investigation will handle processing for a $57 fee, with results delivered in about a week. Existing license holders may
opt in for multistate compacts but are not required to undergo the checks for renewal. The measure aims to strengthen
professionalism and public trust.
