On July 1, 2025, California’s Attorney General secured a landmark $1.55 million settlement with Healthline—the
largest to date under the CCPA. Healthline was found to have failed to honor opt-out requests, improperly shared
sensitive health-related article titles, and lacked proper third-party data-sharing contracts. The settlement also cited
violation of the purpose limitation principle. Required remedies include prohibiting sharing article titles suggestive of
diagnoses, improving opt-out mechanisms, and instituting a three-year CCPA compliance program.
