A revised Form I-9, recently approved by the Office of Management and Budget after a significant increase in fines for errors, must be in use by all employers no later than January 22, 2017. The more user-friendly form, available on the USCIS website, includes drop-down options and a QR Code to help streamline the government audit process. It should still be printed and retained, per Form I-9 retention requirements. Employers are encouraged to complete necessary internal and external audits; schedule employment authorization training before January; and contact I-9 employment authorization vendors.
