Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recently reported that, between Jan. 29 and Jan. 31, 77 Northern California businesses were raised. Taking place in the San Jose, San Francisco and Sacramento areas, ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents served notices of inspections (NOIs) to alert business owners that an audit of hiring records would be occurring. Employers there are required to produce their company’s I-9s within three business days. Investigations remain ongoing and reflect HSI’s stepped up efforts to enforce the laws that prohibit businesses from hiring illegal workers.
