The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has released a revised version of Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, which will become mandatory on Sept. 18 and will replace all prior editions. The new form includes the name change of the “Office of Special Counsel for Immigration-Related Unfair Employment Practices” to “Immigrant and Employee Rights Section” and the removal of “the end of” from the phrase “the first day of employment.” In addition, the Consular Report of Birth Abroad will be added to List C and all of the certifications of report of birth issued by the Department of State will be combined into selection Item 2 under List C which will be renumbered. Changes will be incorporated into a revised edition of the M-274 Handbook for Employers.
