Washington’s first statewide data privacy report highlights growing concerns about how companies collect, use, and
protect personal information. The Attorney General’s Office identified four major issues: excessive data collection and
reuse, weak consent practices and deceptive designs, the sale of personal information, and limited transparency from
data brokers. The report also revealed that more than 200 data breaches were reported in 2025, affecting over eight
million Washington residents. Officials plan to strengthen privacy protections and increase public education.
