In 2025, nearly 1 in 5 U.S. workers (19.1%) who underwent hair drug testing had positive results, according to the 2026 Quest Diagnostics Drug Testing Index. The report found marijuana positivity in hair tests increased 58.9% over five years, reaching 15.1%, while overall urine drug positivity remained above 4% for the 10th consecutive year. Healthcare workers had the highest overall drug positivity rates, and retail employees showed the highest marijuana positivity, highlighting persistent long-term substance use trends in the workforce.
