Wyoming Opts Out of Federal Medical Cannabis Rescheduling

Wyoming has chosen not to adopt the federal government’s reclassification of certain medical cannabis products under state law. Although federal changes moved qualifying medical marijuana to Schedule III, Wyoming Attorney General Keith Kautz determined that the state will continue classifying marijuana as a Schedule I controlled substance because Wyoming has not legalized medical marijuana or created a state licensing program. State officials said any changes to cannabis policy should come through the Legislature rather than administrative rulemaking.
