New York City has joined Massachusetts and Philadelphia in prohibiting employers from inquiring about a prospective employee’s salary history during the hiring process. Mayor Bill de Blasio signed the new law in May, which will take effect Oct. 31 and applies to private employers, among others. The legislation will make it unlawful for employers to rely on the salary history of an applicant in determining salary. The prohibition does not apply to situations where federal, state or local law requires such disclosure or verification of salary history for employment purposes. For more key details …
